TD Bank donation helps community clinic care for the uninsured
TD Bank recently made a $5,000 grant to the Ann Silverman Community Health Clinic to support its free medical and dental services for the uninsured in Bucks County.
“This donation comes at a critical time for our clinic and our patients,” said Peggy Dator, executive director. “We are experiencing a 10 percent increase in new medical patients and a 55 percent increase in new dental patients into our clinic over last year – many of them people who never would have needed our help in the past. With the full impact of healthcare reform some years away, we expect this trend to continue.”
The Ann Silverman Community Health Clinic has treated over 8,500 patients since its founding in 1994, accounting for 34,000 patient visits. The clinic relied on 168 volunteers last year – 127 of them were physicians, dentists, nurses and dental hygienists – and a small paid staff.
“The work of the Ann Silverman Community Health Clinic exemplifies the kind of community organization that TD Bank is happy to support,” said Gregory B. Morgan, regional vice president. “The clinic has a clear vision, strong volunteer support, and is making a difference in the lives of many people.”
The Ann Silverman Community Health Clinic is based in Doylestown Hospital and has satellite offices in Warminster and Ottsville. Testing and laboratory work is done in Doylestown, but physicians see patients at all three locations. In addition to medical care, the clinic stands out among other community clinics in the region by offering free dental care. Regular dental hygiene visits are offered in Doylestown; a cadre of 30 dentists provide free dental care in their offices.
“The support of TD Bank comes at a critical juncture,” said Ms. Dator. “We continue to see families struggling with job and health insurance loss, and dental care is not a consideration of healthcare reform.”
